GEMSAS MEDICINE OFFERS THREAD 2024 APPLICATION CYCLE (2025 ENTRY)
Main Post:
And it is that time once again! GEMSAS Medicine offers for the 2024 application cycle (for 2025 entry) are around the corner, so we’re making this thread to contain all the discussions, theories and excitement!
As usual, I have created a Google form to collate data from this cycle. If you wouldn't mind providing the outcome of your application (be that offer or EONY) it would be much appreciated! I will publish the corresponding data spreadsheet in the pinned comment on this post once we have some responses.
We understand that this can be a stressful and emotional time- make sure to take care of yourselves and each other, and reach out to the moderation team or the community if you need. If you haven't already joined our discord server, you can find it here. You can also find the EOD support thread for this cycle here. Additionally, for those who received an offer and have some questions about the program, there is a thread for AMAs/program comparison here, as well as for facebook/messenger groups and connecting with your cohort here.
Please try to remember that like all other aspects of the process, the interview stage is insanely competitive. Unfortunately, even the most personable, friendly and all-around wonderful people miss out every cycle- half the applicants are rejected at this stage, and I have no doubt the majority would make amazing doctors. No number, exam, or 2-hour video call can define your worth, your ability or your journey. Attributes like patience, commitment, compassion and courage are what make great doctors, and these attributes (and many others) can’t be easily quantified.
If this cycle doesn't go your way, please don't lose hope- keep working towards your goals, and remember who you are outside of all of this. You have so much to offer, and your resilience, hard work and persistence will pay off. You’ve got this, and you will get there- just keep moving forward step by step, and remember to be kind to yourself.
Absolute best of luck to you all! 🦍🩵

CHANCES MEGATHREAD - 2026 ENTRY
Main Post:
Hi everyone,
As with previous years, this thread is here to provide a spot for everyone to discuss their chances for MD/DMD entry based on GAMSAT and GPAs, just to save the sub from being clogged up with many similar posts. If you’re looking for the March GAMSAT results thread, that can be found here. We also have a discord server with a chances channel as well, which can be found here.
Make sure to include which universities you are interested in and any relevant bonuses/rurality/GAM etc!
Top Comment: I have a Q4 CASPER, 6.6 GPA, and 65 GAMSAT, as well as 3 bonuses to UOW - is it worth applying?
Place offers
Main Post:
I see EOD’s are coming out about interview scores now. Do we think Offers for GEMSAS and Flinders will be soon then? Whats everyone’s predicted dates? Bets are on! :)
*also, my condolence’s for people who have received the EOD’s, I wish you all the best of luck for the next cycle
Top Comment: I think a professor from UOW is often a real g and tweets like the day of or the day before offers are released. I’ve been watching her account like a hawk and wow the heart palpitations are real... this waiting game is no joke, good luck everyone!
Offers on private sales
Main Post:
We’ve put in our first offer for a property in which offers are closing tonight. The agent has been updating us on the highest offer. Feels like we’ve been put in the middle of a bidding war between other potential buyers. The agent is using the other offers to try get us to put in a higher offer and at the moment it seems like there’s two other bidders. Feeling super discouraged as it’s already gone over our budget. Is this what it’s like for all private sales?
Top Comment: You put in your best offer. Leave it at that. The other offers might exist. They also might not. Wait and see what happens. When you are buying houses its effectively playing poker. You only know your hand play them that way
Making offers (advice for a first home buyer please!)
Main Post:
I finally received pre-approval under the Homebuyer Fund today and will start looking at houses that I've bookmarked and had in mind. These houses have already been on the market for 2-3 months. Is this a good opportunity to negotiate under as it hasn’t sold for that long? These houses no longer have inspections listed as well.
How would I go about offering a lower price than the stipulated range? Or even just suggesting to the agent if it was possible. What is the common amount/percentage to negotiate with without being disrespectful or having them not take you seriously?
Any success stories and hacks, please let me know! Thank you in advance!
Top Comment: Sadly you're in for a sucky journey. Firstly, I would recommend to look at a bunch of listings, go see them in person, go to some auctions, see what these listings sell for, so that you know yourself what properties are worth. You'll quickly find that advertised prices are almost always 5-15% lower than what the vendor wants. In terms of process, check out homebuyerhelp.com.au - another Redditor set it up and has a good breakdown of the buying process.
